With heavy hearts the family of John (“Jack”) Dolomount announce his passing at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s on January 7th, 2020 at the age of 82 years.
Originally from Port Aux Basques, Jack spent most of his lifetime in Deer Lake, initially as a school teacher and principal, and more recently as an avid golfer and crossword puzzle whiz. He was a long-time member of both the Masonic Lodge and the Anglican Church.
Jack was very well-read and knowledgeable. His grandchildren referred to him as their “walking encyclopedia” due to his knack for history, geography, and language.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Leila Dolomount (nee Stead); his children Bern (Carolyn), Bob (Cheryl), Glen (Joanne), and John (Tanya); grandchildren Matthew (Pixie), Lindsay (Mathieu), Stephanie, Abbey, Jillian, Daniel and Grant; great-granddaughter Reyna; sisters Catherine (Ron) and Margaret (Dave); sisters-in-law June Dolomount, Lorna Dolomount, Linda (Gerry) Wasitis, Yvonne Saunders, Myrtle Fitzgerald, and Verna Murphy; brothers-in-law: Gilbert (Valda) Stead and Roy (Isabel) Stead; Dianna Pelley (mother of Abbey & Daniel); special friends Bern & Sandra Adey; and a large circle of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Muriel Dolomount; parents in-law Lindsey and Hilda Stead; brothers James, Reginald, and Henry Dolomount; and his grandson Michael Dolomount.
Visitation will be held Friday January 10th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Deer Lake. The funeral service will be held 11am Saturday January 11th at St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church in Deer Lake with Rev. Paulette Bugden officiating.
