Samuel Aaron Major (May 24th 1933 - Feb 6th 2020) passed away peacefully at Western Memorial Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born in Fortune and moved to St. John’s after graduating from high school to attend teacher’s college. For a short time, he worked as a teacher in Deer Lake where he met his future wife, Lorna. He then went on to work in building supplies, 20 years with the Lundrigans, 20 years running the family business Major Building Supplies in Pasadena and finally at Kent until recent years. He was predeceased by Lorna and his sister Beatrice (Roger Spencer). He leaves behind his children Kirk (Tracy), Craig (Debbie), Sonya (Ian Hutchinson), his sister Adelaide (George Thornhill), his grandchildren Michael (Lisa), Jennifer (Dave Duong), Stephanie (Joseph) Carroll, Carla (Robert)Squires, Celia Symons (Margo Alleman), Kelsey Symons (Cesar Rivera), his great grandchildren Anna, Isaac, Sam, Jack, and Sophie. He will also be missed by his extended family and a wide circle of friends. Sam will be remembered as a kind and generous man who loved nothing more than sitting back and telling a good story. A special thank you to the staff of Mountain View Estates, the staff of 3 A ,4 AB and Palliative Care at Western Memorial Regional Hospital who took care of him during his final days. The family will be having a visitation at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Sunday Feb 9th from 2- 5. The memorial service will be held at First United Church on Monday Feb10th at 2:00pm. Interment to follow at a later date.
