We first met Barbara and Walter at C.F.S. Moisie, Quebec. It was on the northern
Quebec/Labrador border. This was early 1970’s.
There was no T.V.s, telephones, newspapers or radios. It was true isolation with the Canadian Armed Forces. Everything was provided – all we had to bring was our clothing and the odd hobby item we liked to do.
Everything was marked D.N.D. from cutlery to snow shovels – a very common site. Barbara and Walter played a good many card games with us. We enjoyed the winter carnivals with them and other fun activities.
The common joke was if you ever had a baby up in Moisie it would probably be born with D.N.D. stamped on it.
Hence, Darlene Naomi Dominie came into our lives with much love - a true gift. Having her named after me, it was something, I have cherished throughout the years.
After C.F.S. Moisie we both continued on our Air Force way of life with transfers to other bases. We both finally finished in C.F.S. Gander, Newfoundland. We were both finally home.
When we think of Walter we will stop and smile for have known one of the kindest and best persons we have ever met.
To have known Walter was a true privilege, honor and blessing.
He was kind and wore the uniform well.
C.F.S. Moisie is no more. It has long gone with the test of time.
Now is the time for Walter to “Stand Down.”
Rest gently - our friend.
