Edward (Ned) Francis Butt
July 22, 1931 – May 12, 2020
Edward (Ned) Francis Butt passed peacefully away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 88.
Ned was born in Mount Moriah July 22, 1931 where he eventually met and married his wife Lois Ellsworth. He lived a full and rewarding life loved by his family and well known and appreciated by the community. He worked over 40 years at the Corner Brook paper mill where he earned the respect of co-workers and made many friends. Ned always had a story for anyone he met especially if they or a family member worked at the mill. A couple of favourite pastimes over the years were going to the “camp” in Taylor’s Brook to snare rabbits with his Uncle Duncan and cousins Bram, Ed, Heber and Wade, or fishing or berry picking with those same fellows. He enjoyed meeting his old friends at a local grocery store and having a yarn over coffee. In winter he could often be found at his workbench making Christmas ornaments for friends and family or next to the roaring woodstove watching hockey games or doing jigsaw puzzles. A lifetime of summers was spent camping, hunting, fishing, puttering in his shed, spending time in his gardens, and “going for a run” in the car with his family to explore the nooks and crannies of Newfoundland.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter Glenys Butt (Darren Stone) and Darren’s sons Ian and Andrew, brothers Munden Butt (Marilyn) and Mack Butt, sisters-in-law Donna (Jim Gillam) and Molly Delaney, special nephew David Gillam (Morgan), and brother-in-law Ted Feaver, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Lois (September 14, 2018), his parents Munden & Marion Butt, sisters Ina Eagan and Maxine Feaver, special niece Kristina Gillam, in-laws James Eagan, Joan Butt, Ralph & Mabel (Tillie) Ellsworth, Melvin Ellsworth, Lawrence Ellsworth, and Annetta (Nettie) Ellsworth-Noseworthy. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation which granted a wonderful wish to his precious niece Kristina. If you need a donation card for Children's Wish Foundation please call Fillatre's Funeral Home (709)785-2510.
Over the last couple of years Ned resided at the Lohnes Complex in Curling. The family would like to thank the staff for the very special care and friendship they showed to him during his time there.
Due to Covid-19 Government restrictions, there will be private ceremony for family, followed by burial at Mt. Patricia Cemetery.
