Please share a memory of Jeremiah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Aubrey Anderson Sr. April 19, 1938 -June 12, 2020 It is with great sadness that the family of Jeremiah “Aubrey” Anderson of Burgeo, NL announce his passing at the age of 82 years at the Calder Health Care Center, after a year long encounter with cancer. Aubrey was born in his family home in the Messers area of Burgeo to his parents Edward and Matilda (Strickland) Anderson. He was the youngest of 10 siblings and descendant of two of the earliest families of settlers in the Burgeo area. Aubrey was a fisherman his whole life, as were his forebearers. He began fishing with his father at the age of 9 and completely on his own at the age of 16, from which time he fished until his retirement at the age of 57. He loved his Native roots and was an avid hunter and fisher most of his life. He passed on his love of the earth, air and sea to all his children. As a young man Aubrey learned to play the guitar and loved to sing. Visiting 62 ports in total, he travelled the South Coast of NL where people would pay to see his shows. His love for music lives on today in his children and grandchildren. His most recent performance was in June 2019 when, at the age of 81, he appeared on Burgeo’s “The Bandwagon” for the first time in its long history. Aubrey met and married his beautiful wife Amelia in 1962. Together they had 9 children and raised 8 of them to adulthood in Aubrey’s childhood home in Messers. Aubrey loved to tell jokes and would regale anyone who would listen with fond stories of yesteryear. Aubrey was predeceased by his loving wife Amelia (Hann); his infant daughter Leasa; parents Edward and Matilda; brothers Matthew, Ted, Jack, George and Don; sisters Maud, Susan, Lena and many extended relatives and in-laws. Aubrey is survived by his children Elsie, Eugene (Debbie), Gerald, Aubrey (Kathryn), Betty (Steve), Edward, Wanda and Selina; grandchildren Justin, Russell, Patrick, Lisa, Clayton, Emily, Chris, Nikita, Adrienne, Danielle, Kearson, Noah, Alexis and Nathaniel; 20 great grandchildren; his sister Elsie, and a plethora of nieces/nephews and extended family. Also left behind are his best friends Wayne Billard and Susan Flint and Lewis, Christa, Nick and Sarah Standing. The family would like to extend profound thanks to Lewis, Christa and family for caring for dad over the years when we were not able. Your kindness and friendship to him is much appreciated and will never be forgotten. Also great thanks to the staff of the Calder Health Care Center, Burgeo, for the care and laughs you provided during his illness. No viewings as per dad’s wishes. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private family burial service will be held at the Burgeo Community Cemetery. “As you’ve always said dad, there’s no place like home. Go on home now, rest easy, sing to your heart’s content with mom. We will love and miss you always.”
