Gladys Mary MacDonald
Jeffrey’s, NL
Feb. 18, 1923 – Aug. 14, 2020
Heaven received the most beautiful angel today. Our mother Gladys passed away at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, NL on Friday, August 14, 2020 at the age of 97 years.
Mom was always the pillar of the family. She was a loving, devoted mother and we were extremely blessed to call her mom. Her beautiful, infectious smile will be missed not only by her children and grandchildren, but also by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was a woman of great faith. Even through difficult times, illness, losing her sight she remained faithful. Never complaining, her smile remained, her love shone through, her caring nature never waned. She remained a faithful servant of God and was a shining example to all her children and grandchildren.
Mom loved to cook and knit. She spent hours sitting in her rocking chair, knitting for everyone from her children, grandchildren, the homeless in BC, babies in the hospital, Beavercraft and anyone in need.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Habashi and all of the staff of the Pallitive Care Unit at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital. They would also like to say a special thank you to all of mom’s home care workers: Rhona Butt, Donna, Noreen Walsh and Bobbie Jo.
She leaves to mourn her children: Charles, Bernadette, Stanley, Mary (Alex) Shears, Loretta (Rick) Laurie, Freda, Gerald (Trudy), Eileen (Steve) St. Croix, Delphine (Dave) Renfrew; daughter-in-law Claudette; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Daniel; son Clyde; brother Clyde Hynes and sister Mildred Dalrymple.
To honor and respect Glady’s wishes cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium, Pasadena, NL. Due to the government Covid-19 restrictions a private family funeral mass will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from St. Joseph’s Parish in Heatherton, NL with Father Kris Mekala officiating. Inurnment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery will take place following the service. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Parish, Heatherton, NL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing, NL.
