Please share a memory of Jeanette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Family and friends of the late Jeanette Chaisson announce her peaceful passing on August 13 th , 2020 at the Labrador Grenfell Health in Happy Valley-Goose Bay with her best friend Drusilla by her side, we celebrate the life of Jeanette Chaisson, born February 25, 1934, and from Kerrick, New Brunswick but made Goose Bay her permanent home.
Jeanette, known as JAN to those who knew her well, came to Goose Bay in 1952 to work as a Chambermaid and then food server at the MAC terminal building to work with the American Air force. She worked there until she met her spouse Frank Keats (deceased) and moved to the “valley”, originally living on Birch Island. She worked at Warr’s Pharmacy as a store clerk for over 30 years until her retirement. Although Jan could not speak a word of English when she moved to Goose Bay, she adapted quickly to the area and met the challenge of learning a new language. Here, she made Goose Bay her home and made life long friends.
JAN was a very intelligent lady who was passionate about many things and loved to learn. One of her joys was to relax in front of the TV with her favorite shows Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and to do crosswords and other puzzle books. But nothing could compare to Jan’s love of the Montreal Canadians, collecting frogs and watching Brad Gushue curl. She loved cream soda, ginger snaps and going out for lunch until her health no longer allowed. Those who were privileged to know her appreciated her wit, honesty and feistiness. She was never afraid to speak her mind, give her opinion and would never shy away from a good discussion.
Thanks go out to those who helped care for JAN in her last years. Special thanks to the staff at Labrador Grenfell Health and namely Dr. Lafortune who spoke to JAN in her native tongue and showed nothing but care and compassion for her.
Funeral Services, due to the current COVID conditions, are limited. If you wish to join us in the celebration of Jan’s life please contact me, Drusilla Hawkins no later than Saturday evening or show your respects by make a donation to JAN’s charity of choice, the local food bank in her memory.
JAN will be laid to rest at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery on Monday, August 17, 2020.
