Calvin Winsor
Corner Brook, NL
December 9, 1934 - October 29, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Calvin (AKA-Windy) Winsor. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years Joan (Vincent) Winsor, his treasured six children David Winsor (Elizabeth), Debbie Rowsell (Ross), Derrick Winsor, Dianne Kennedy (Tony), Marilyn Winsor (Wilf), Robert Winsor (Sheila) and 12 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, siblings Margaret Bailey, Effie Dean, and Roy Winsor (Shirley) and large circle of friends and relatives too many to mention, and, of course, his hockey buddies.
He is pre-deceased by his parents Pearce and Rita (Chaulk) Winsor, sister Dora Byrne and granddaughter Nicole Kennedy.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be determined at a later date.
He began his career working at Atlantic Ready Mix and retired from North Star Cement as Foreman and Past President of Union.
His passion and love for sports started at a very young age until the age of 83 playing hockey with his hockey buddies. He played on the commercial hockey league and was selected each year for the all-star team. Over the years, he was on the executive committee for Corner Brook Royals and Corner Brook Minor Hockey, and coached hockey for many years. When not seen at the rink he was spending quality time with his wife and family. He was well admired in the community for his volunteer services. He played with the Humber Hawks and the Corner Brook Barons “well known for his pitching techniques” he earned the name Windy. He was a fishing guide and avid fly fisherman seen quite often at his favorite fishing spot Home Pool, Harry’s River, with kids and all over the years.
The cabin (landmark) at Pinchgut Lake was a daily passion in his life spent with his family. He enjoyed quiet times where he would putter around, cut wood, snare rabbits, snowshoe and tie his flies for salmon fishing.
A warm and special thank you to Dr. Nicola Penney, Coady LaFosse RNBN (Community Support) for overseeing Calvin’s wishes to remain in his home with his family throughout his final journey in life. A big thanks to Dr. Kate Lafferty and the Palliative Care team, Brian White (OT Community Support), Tiffany Dwyer (Social Worker, community support), and Lawton’s Drugs.
Sympathies can be sent to 116 Elizabeth Street Corner Brook, NL A2H 6A1 and donations in memoriam to Western Health Memorial Foundation in aid of Cuddle Bed for Palliative Care.
Forever loved and always remembered in our hearts.
