Robert Francis Mosher
Corner Brook, NL
April 14, 1925 - December 5, 2020
My dear ole Dad lived to the ripe old age of 95. He passed away peacefully just 19 days after moving to The Western Long Term Care Home. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Hilda (nee Carberry), his mother Annie (nee White), and his father George Apsy Mosher. His brothers Max, Jack, Arch, and George have all gone before him; as have his sisters Grace, Bess, Josephine, and Mary. George’s wife Gladys, and Hilda’s two sisters, Audrey Shellard and Carolyn Byrne survive him. Dad has two children, a son Murray (Hilary) of Rocky Harbour and me, his daughter Gail (Mark Brantana) of Houston, Texas. He leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; many have been kind to him. Much love and sincere thanks to all who visited & helped him over the years.
Nothing in this world made Dad happier than being outdoors. Whether caribou hunting with buddies Milton Penney, Bill Wheeler, and Don Colbourne; duck hunting with Clarence Humber, salmon fishing, trapping fox, or setting rabbit snares; my dear ole Dad was in his glee. A fishing trip to Flowers River, Labrador fulfilled a dream come true for him. He loved tying flies and reading books on hunting, fishing and trapping.
After working 41 years as an electrician at the Bowater/Kruger Pulp & Paper Mill, he retired and purchased land in Spruce Brook to build a cabin. It was a labor of love and a great way to spend his time. Dad loved Newfoundland music. Singing, playing the spoons and the harmonica, was great fun for him.
I always told Dad there wasn't anything he couldn't do. He could fix it, make it, build it or repair it. He could do it all. He always gave 100 percent to anything he ever did. He picked up painting and woodworking as hobbies after he turned 85. The authentic “Mosherville” village he made was a sight to behold. Dad was small but saucy; fearless and funny. The original “hard case.”
As a chapter closes on Dad’s life and the page is turned to a new beginning, I know he has been reunited with my precious Mom. I hope he has caught up with his beloved father and has had a good yarn with his friend Milton.
There may be a few fathers who are loved as much as he is, but I am guaranteed sure, no father in this universe is loved more. You will be sorely missed my dear ole Dad.
