David Alastair Middleton, 61, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away on December 25, 2020 in Corner Brook. David was born on March 6, 1959, in Prince Rupert, BC, to John Watt and Margaret Anderson. As a wee bairn, he immigrated to Aberdeen, Scotland with his mother and was raised there with much help from his paternal grandparents, John and Evelyn Watt, maternal grandmother Finetta Anderson, and aunt Jean Anderson. When his mother remarried, he was adopted by Charles Middleton, and Maureen and Charles became his step-siblings. His father stayed in Canada and when he remarried, Dave gained two half-sisters, Christine and Fiona. In 1977 he graduated from Gordon's College in Aberdeen and after a brief stint studying engineering, where he excelled at having a good time, Dave entered the fish business. While working for J. Marr Seafoods in Hull, England, he and his then wife Tessa May had a daughter, Frances. Dave was given the opportunity in 1984 to establish an office in Halifax, NS, so he, Tessa, and Frances immigrated to Canada. Three years later, their son Andrew was born in Halifax. Dave and his family moved to Corner Brook in 1988 when Bill Barry presented him the opportunity to join Western Coordinators. One of Dave's major career accomplishments was receiving the Canadian Export Award for Fisheries in 1995 with Bill and Karl Sullivan on behalf of the company for their herring sales from all over Atlantic Canada and business with Russia. Dave helped grow the Barry Group Inc. into what it is today and worked there, having a lot of fun and travelling across the world, until his retirement in 2017. He loved the west coast of Newfoundland as it reminded him of Scotland’s rugged shores and he found the warmth of the people to be touching. It was also the perfect place to apply his "work hard, play hard" ethic to sports including mountain and road biking, downhill skiing, running, hiking, snowshoeing, and triathlons. His love of sport and the outdoors led him to be a volunteer ski patrol at Marble Mountain for several years as well as to travelling to Moab, Utah to mountain bike with his buddies eight times. David is survived by his siblings and their spouses, his children Frances (Nick Anderson) and Andrew (Savannah Hann), four grandchildren - Mya, Chace, Gabriel, and Jacqueline - and nephew, Oliver. The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to Lynn Pike, Lucille Crewe, and all of the staff at the Protective Community Residence and Long Term Care in Corner Brook for their support and compassionate care.
