It is with great loss and sadness that the family of the late Agathe (Akat) Piwas announces her passing at her residence surrounded by family and friends in Natuashish on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the age of 80. Leaving to mourn with loving memories, her children; Bob, Emma, Mary Jane, Paul, Dennie, Willy, Jeffrey, Marcus, Michael and John K, sisters; Mary Jane (Joachim) and Charlotte (George), sister-in-law; Brigitta (Lar), 42 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews. Agathe is predeceased by her husband, Edward (Etuet), parents; Charles (Tshenish) and Theresa (Minishkuesh) Pasteen, siblings: Napeu, Charlie, Joseph, Theresa, Kathleen, Tshimish and Adeline. Agathe was known for her singing Catholic Innu hymns and leading the Sunday liturgy when the priest was not available. She was a strong Innu woman who had great knowledge of the traditional way of life and her skills in the making of the traditional crafts and clothing. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the St. Anne Tshukuminu Roman Catholic Church in Natuashish with Father Anthony Ahn officiating. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the funeral service will also be live streamed. Interment to follow at the Catholic Cemetery.
