Imelda (Mary Ann) Staples
April 7, 1945 – February 1, 2021
Celebration of Life
Burial Service for Imelda will be held on Monday, August 30th, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at The Roman Catholic Section of Mt. Patricia Cemetery, with Fr. Jim Robertson officiating, followed by a visitation/celebration of her life at the Glynmill Inn. (room off main lobby) from 4-7 pm.
Born and raised in Curling, NL, Imelda died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Carbonear, NL on February 1, 2021, after a 10+ year battle with lymphoma. She is predeceased by her parents Stephen and Florence and sisters Marie, Margret, and Kathleen. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories is her daughter and son, Trudy and Brad (Sarah). And grandchildren, Ryan, Janaya, and Mitchell: her brothers John (Maxine), Gregory (Shirley): her sisters Joan (Randy), and Marion (Laurie) and a large circle of nieces and nephews.
Imelda spent her working life as a lab technician splitting time with Western Memorial Regional Hospital and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Corner Brook, NL. In addition to Corner Brook, Imelda spent approximately 30 years in the St John’s area and made many friends in the minor hockey scene. She could always be counted on to lead the cheer, shaking her coin-filled plastic bottles. Her enthusiasm was infectious and she would have all the fans cheering in no time.
Along with endless enthusiasm, Imelda had a magnetic personality and an excellent sense of humor. At social events, she was the life of the party and always worked the room to make sure she made everyone feel welcome. She was known to dance around the room singing whenever a guitar was broke out, while pulling people up to dance.
While outgoing, Imelda was a spiritual person, both with her higher power and with nature. She had a strong attachment to both, the ocean and the wilderness. She could be found walking the beach and staring out on the ocean to meditate and she was equally happy picking berries, gathering wood for a fire or helping out with whatever project was going on at the time. During her last years in Carbonear, Imelda was active in her local church. She attended mass multiple times a week and volunteered when opportunities arose. When her time came, she was making arrangements to spend her final days next to family in Corner Brook.
While your family will dearly miss you, you will always be in our hearts. You were a fantastic mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. You left the world in better shape than you found it and we will always be grateful we were able to have you as part of our life.
Imelda will be cremated at Noels Funeral Home in Carbonear and buried at Mount Patricia Cemetery in Corner Brook, NL. Internment will occur after the pandemic restrictions have lifted in summer of 2021. A celebration of life will occur at this time as well with family and friends encouraged to attend the event.
