Obituary of Matthew Chambers

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Matthew Chambers announce his passing on Monday, February 22, 2021. Surrounded by his loving family, Matthew passed peacefully at his home in Airdrie, Alberta at the age of 79.
Matt was born in Bear Cove, on the Great Northern Peninsula on June 6, 1941. He moved to Labrador City in 1967 and worked with the Iron Ore Company of Canada for 43 years. He was a dedicated volunteer and served on many committees such as Labrador West Minor Hockey. One of his greatest accomplishments was the building of his log cabin where many friends and family would congregate and enjoy an evening. He is survived by his wife Eileen (nee Parrill) of 46 years, his daughter Susan and son Kris (Kirsty), as well as his three adoring grandchildren, Esme, Tessa and Angus. Matt will be dearly missed by his sisters, Dorcas (Chesley) and Aurelia and his brothers, Wilson (Louise) and Jacob (Julie). Also left to mourn are his brothers and sisters in law, Calvin (Diana), Laud (Irene) , Ruby (Melvin) , Marilyn and Millicent, as well as aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
Matt is predeceased by his father Hubert and mother Mary Ann. His father-in- law Darius (Roy) Parrill and mother- in -law Hazel Parrill and brothers in law Alvin Parrill , Garfield Gould and Edmund Taylor.
As per Matt’s wishes, he will be laid to rest “back home” in Bear Cove. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to Cancer research or the Kidney Foundation.
