Maxwell G. Hynes

1947 - 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce that Maxwell Gordon Hynes, 73, of Corner Brook, NL, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2021.

Max was born in Curling to the late Elizabeth and Sandy Hynes on March 27, 1947 and lived in Curling for nearly all of his life. He loved his view of the beautiful Bay of Islands, watching boats go in and out the bay and spent time watching and admiring the many birds who came to feast on his always-full birdfeeders.

Max was an active member of the Curling Lions Club for 36 years, serving as Bingo Chairman for more than three decades, where he loved to help host community members each week. In his younger years he was a regular volunteer with the Corner Brook Royals and he was a devoted hockey fan throughout his life, deeply committed to his beloved Maple Leafs. He dearly loved spending time at his cabin at Slab Pond, making memories with his family and friends.

He will be sadly missed by his family, many friends and his daughters Lori and Krista (Darryl) and his most precious gifts, grandsons Sam and Liam. A quiet and kind man, Max’s world would light up when talking about and spending time with his treasured grandsons who made him so proud.

Max is survived by a large and loving family, including brothers Don (Joyce), Gerald, Harvey (Bette), Wayne, sisters Alice, Audrey (Keith), Doris, Joan (Al), Marina and Rona, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, and his brother Merle (Dianne).

Due to current restrictions, a small family visitation will take place at Filllatre’s Funeral Home and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

For those who wish to do so, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Max’s memory to the Community Mental Health Initiative (CMHI) or the NL West SPCA.
