Molly McIntosh

Ware

1943-2021

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Molly McIntosh Ware announce her passing on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Corner Brook Long Term Care at the age of 77 years.

Molly’s family had a tradition of Christmas poems, hers in 1943, the year of her birth, went “Rejoice all in Earth and Heaven/ What a day October 7.” She benefitted from the spirit of her family expressed in this poem. The spirit made her into the special kind of girl she was. She got her love of music from her father and her brothers.

She was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and was schooled in London, Ontario. She was both an upper Canadian and Atlantic girl. She never lost her love of the family home in London and the family cottage, where she could be with her father, Howard and mother, Helen. But the larger part of her life was lived in Atlantic Canada.

She had a gift for close friendships, and never forgot her childhood friends. She had a particular empathy for children, which led to her being a very fine teacher of young children. She also had a love for working with the handicapped. And this later led her to working with the Community Mental Health Initiatives in Corner Brook, and she was the driving force behind the building of Summit Place.

Her university education gave her many friends, and a short career in teaching, but the most vital part of her education came when she followed the courses of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. This led her to developing the music for young children programme in Pasadena, which provided the first steps for many of the students, some of whom went on to be her private students. They became such an important part of her life, and she was always very proud of their successes. She shared with them her passion of music.

Many will remember her Christmas greens services at St. David’s, when she created a band overnight. She knew a remarkable number of Christmas Carols, so the programme was new and different every year.

She also had a fine alto voice, and an ability to read music that meant she could hold a line, and provide a lead for the other singers to follow. This was an important ability when she was directing the choir at St. David’s Church, Pasadena. Music consumed much of her time, but she also made space to be a busy and caring wife and mother. She herself skied and skated with great energy, and encouraged her boys, Tom and Greg to follow.

As a girl she had participated in the Ontario Athletic Leadership programme, so it is no surprise that she played an in important role in the large scale baseball little league, as treasurer.

In her later years in Corner Brook, she began to have a hankering to reconnect with her university friends of earlier years, and she also loved travel. Florida, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic were all important destinations for great family holidays. Her adventurous spirit meant that she enjoyed exploring the culture of the places she visited. She had so much that she wanted to do when her plans were cruelly cut short by a stroke following a spring visit to British Columbia in 2015.

She was given the best care in the Western Memorial Regional Hospital and, after two years, moved to the caring atmosphere of Corner Brook Long Term Care. She never lost her positive spirit, and it was always rewarding to visit her to the very last, she did not give up, and on the second last night of her life, it gave her great pleasure to heat her grandson Sammy play the keyboard over the internet.

Molly leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Dr. Martin Ware, sons Tom (Stephanie) Ware and Greg Ware; grandsons Evan and Sammy; brothers Bob (Anne) Hayman, George (Helen) Hayman, the late Donald (Lenore) Hayman, brothers-in-law James Ware and Charles Ware; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by her father Howard Hayman and mother Helen Hayman (McIntosh).

Cremation has taken place, a private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Amy Richter officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Community Mental Health Initiative.
