It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Brenda Power (nee Oke) announce her sudden passing on Friday, July 9th, 2021 at the age of 58 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, husband of 32 years Kevin; the light of her life and best friend, her daughter Alicia (loving partner Adam); and her fur babies, Lilly and Jax; brothers: Gary Oke, Wayne (Viola) Oke, Terry (Pennie) Oke and sister Madonna (Gerry) Day; sisters and brothers-in-law: LizAnne Oke, Gladys Oke, Ethel (Ray) Brace, Ada (Lloyd) Gillam, Barbara (Marty) Roberts, Grace (Keith) Kennedy, Annette (Brian) Rowsell, Maxine Power, Gerald (Donna) Power, Michael Power and Hubert Power; as well as a very large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Predeceased by her parents Edward and Beatrice Oke, father and mother-in-law Ignatius (Nash) and Edna Power, brother Edward Jr., sisters-in-law Kathleen Power and Georgina Kartechner, brothers-in-law Dave Power and Tony Power.
Brenda had a heart of gold and would go above and beyond for anyone she met without hesitation. She loved sewing, cooking for her family, and travelling, especially for volleyball trips to support her favourite girl, Alicia. She formed many special friendships over the last 40 years working in the retail industry at Kmart, Zellers, Target, and Dollarama. She had an immense impact on countless individuals and those who were lucky enough to have known her will always remember her generosity, tremendous work ethic and bright smile.
Visitation will take place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Sunday, July 18th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, to a maximum of 25 people at one time. Mask and physical distancing are required.
The Funeral service, due to COVID-19 restrictions will occur by invitation only and will be held on Monday, July 19th at 3:00 p.m. from the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, with the Very Reverend Catherine Short officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Patricia cemetery.
Brenda loved spending time in her garden and was especially proud of Alicia’s career in the teaching profession, therefore, in her memory donations may be made to help create a school garden at Cloud River Academy in Roddickton, where Alicia and Adam are currently teaching via e-transfer cloudriveracad@nlesd.ca
