Mary Viola Lucas passed away peacefully at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing, NL in her 85th year, Saturday, October 23, 2021.
Our mom was a beautiful, kind, loving and very witty woman, who was devoted to her family and created a warm loving home for us all. She held a central place in each of our lives and her presence will be profoundly missed.
She leaves to mourn with loving and precious memories, her husband of 67 years, Martin. Children: Joan Lucas in Stephenville Crossing, Debbie Cook in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Helen (Martin) Brake in Stephenville Crossing, Marie (Randy) in Edmonton, Alberta, Martin Jr. (Donna) in Stephenville Crossing, Todd (Luena) in Edmonton, Alberta.
Grandchildren: Cory (Sherry), Jamie (Sabrina), Terri-Lynn (Eugene), Sean (Chastity), Tyler (Jenn), Terry (Heidi), Candace (Alex), Conrad, Kody, Christy and Caira, 14 precious great-grandchildren: Shana, Emily, Talan, Tristan, Hailye, Cameron, Kyler, Zeven, Silas, Nevada, Nicholas, Flynn, Tori, Harlee.
Her siblings: Dulcie (Tommy) Downey, Mena (John), Fintan, Bernie, Gervais.
A large extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viola was predeceased by her parents John and Anna Young nee (Hynes), infant twin sons, Peter and Paul, brothers: Harold and Martin, Sister: Mildred.
The family wishes to express a most sincere thank you to Dr. Sheila Lewis, the nursing staff at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre, nursing and palliative care units, for their outstanding care and compassion during our mom’s stay and final days there. Our family will be forever grateful!
Following our mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a later date, at Assumption Parish Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Viola’s memory, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
