Obituary of Stella Olive Saunders

Stella Olive Saunders (nee McDonald)

Jan. 20, 1941 – Dec. 14, 2021

With heavy hearts and great sadness, the family of the late Stella Olive Saunders (McDonald) announce her passing on December 14^th, 2021, in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador at the age of 80 years.

Stella will be deeply missed by her husband of 61 years, Gerald Saunders. Also left to mourn are her eight children: Roland, Corinna, Angela DeNuke (David), Euila Leonard (Frank), David (Pamela Willison), Gerald (Leona), Jim (Rosalia) and BeeJay. Within the fold of her family, Stella also cherished and nurtured her nieces and nephew: Carol, Deb, Marilyn, Peter, and Lucy. Stella dearly loved her grandchildren: Dennis, Corey, Kyle, Lauren, Brendan, Nicole, Bradford, Samantha, Monika, Rebecca, Jason, Denae, Jeremy, and Isaac. She was also a proud great grandmother to Eloise, Nora and Greyson. Stella’s last surviving sibling, Elsie Pardy, will miss her chats with her baby sister. Stella also had a special place in her heart for her long-time friend, Olive Clarke.

Born in Paradise Arm, Labrador, her childhood and youth were spent in Paradise River and Packs Harbour, Labrador. As a wife and mother, Stella built her adult life in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Stella was predeceased by her parents, Roland and Grace McDonald; siblings Winnifred, David, Jim, Edna, and June; in law parents Jim and Maggie Saunders, as well as other in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Stella was a kind hearted and generous woman, not only did she raise eight children of her own, she also gave shelter and sanctuary to many more. Stella will be forever missed and always remembered.

The funeral service for Stella will be at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Happy Valley, December 20^th, 2021 at 2:00pm with Reverend Amber Tremblett officiating. Family and friend’s welcome. Following COVID-19 rules and regulations, a maximum of 125 people will be permitted in the church for the funeral service, masks and proof of vaccination will be required for entry into the church. As expressions of sympathy, flowers will be graciously accepted. Donations in Stella’s memory may be made to your local food bank, The Kids Eat Smart Program or a charity of your choice.
