To all the Reid families.
Ah, another old patriarch has moved on down the line. The man with the pleasant smile and quite demeanour, the man who loved life and laughed so much when reminiscing stories of the whole family, has slipped quietly into the ages.
Every Spring, when a new fishing season began, Willis and Bessie found their way to the Baker’s Brook/Rocky Harbour part of this coast to visit friends and spend time with relatives. So many Saturday evenings he would pull into mother’s driveway and walk up across the garden for a little chat. Of course, mother always provided a little snack and a cup of tea to pass the time.
A gentle man, we will remember his kindness, his politeness and, especially, his recollection of days long gone. Stories of his dear mother (our Aunt Alice) and her sisters always found a way into our conversations and left us smiling . For no matter what story these precious sisters related, it was bound to be told in a way that brought uncontrolled laughter to us all. That is the legacy we all remember and repeat time after time.
To all the family, Neta and I extend our sincere condolences. You have all lost, not only a precious father, grandfather, brother and uncle, but a valuable friend, as well. Always a gentleman, he will be fondly remembered.
Wherever you go, my dear man, may there be a hot cup of tea, a freshly-baked white bun and someone with whom to share your many stories and laughter. Rest in comfort, dear cousin.
