To Aunt Melinda and Family
Where do I begin as I reflect on how our lives were so intertwined throughout my childhood and up to my university years. First and foremost, I am so sad on the passing of my Uncle Bax. Although I have many Aunts and Uncles, he was by far the closest one to me. He always came across as a very loving Husband, Father and more recently as a loving Grandfather. I always shook my head in somewhat …not disbelief, that’s not the right word, but at how devoted he was to taking care of his family in the last 30 or so years. He was truly an amazing man, and I always looked up to him.
He probably never realized it, but he was also indirectly a mentor to me throughout my teenage years as I started working. I saw how both my Dad and Uncle were always working and trying to get ahead. I always felt this instilled my hard work ethic and then Uncle Bax had an uncanny ability to always find a great business opportunity.
Over the last 10 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing golf with him anytime I went back to Newfoundland with my Dad and Nathan. We had many a laugh and Nathan and I cherished the time we had together on the course.
There is so much more to be said, but Uncle Bax, may you rest in peace for all the good you have done in the world through my eyes. The world will not be the same without you and you will be greatly missed by so many.
I wish I could be there with the family during this difficult time but I had a hockey injury this week that prevented me from travelling. I hope to see you all soon.
Love Marty, Jeanne, Nathan, and Andie
