Bernie, George and family:
Since you called with the devastating news I have been constantly thinking of Annette and reflecting on our relationship both personal and professional. The beautifully written obituary captures the essence of the extraordinary woman she was. It creates a vivid picture for those who didn't know her and reiterates to those of us who did - what we already knew.
When Annette and I met in the 80"s, two "Townies" showing up for work in Labrador, we immediately hit it off. She was a lot of fun and was always, always dependable. When I transferred to the St. John's Probation Office I relied on her often for assistance with the Labrador EM clients. She never let me down - ever.
As you know, her love for Labrador was abundant and she held great affinity for Indigenous peoples, particularly the people of Sheshatshiu. They, in turn, reciprocated tenfold. It was a relationship of mutual respect, envied by many, which will be a big part of her legacy for sure.
Over the next few days you'll remain in my thoughts and prayers as you say goodbye. Such a huge loss for us all. Take care of yourselves and Godspeed to you Annette. See you on the other side my friend.
