Jennifer wasn't the best cook, and she didn't mind admitting it. Nonethless she loved being a hostess. She would invite the whole family on Boxing Day, always sometime during Easter and Thanksgiving not to mention a time or two during the summers for BBQ and more. I've never seen anyone served boxed potatoes and pre-made lasagna, but recently she taken a liking to cooking and started to learn how to make it from scratch and she was so proud to share that with our family. And we were happy to enjoy it!
One year she asked me how to make ham so I sent her a recipe. She didn't know what cloves were so I bought a pack so she could bake the ham. She baked that ham every special occasion after that and always talked about how I shared the recipe with her. A few weeks ago at Thanksgiving she made the most amazing ham! Everyone talked about, my husband said it was definitely the best ham he ate. I like to think she was very pleased with all the compliments. She was really starting to be quite the cook, when she wanted to be, although she hadn't yet experienced scalloped potatoes from scratch. I'm sure she would have mastered them in no time.
When we have ham, I know we will think of her. We will think of her often, with cups of tea with the kids, during the holidays, B52s,a glass of wine, Neverending laughing outbursts...
But when it comes to ham, I'll never eat ham again and not think of her. That recipe is in my recipe box and it's now called Jennifer's Ham.
