What memories! No! What blessed memories! Yes! I have many blessed memories of my beloved sister, Susie.
She knew what to say and when to say it. Indeed, her wisdom was knowing what to say and when not to say it.
She was the most wonderful person to everyone. Her heart was always in the right place - a real caregiver who thought more of others than of herself.
She was kind and generous, unselfish and good natured, with an attitude of independence and forthrightness.
While acknowledging her limits, she also knew how to live. And since yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, she knew how to live in the moment.
Laughter, too, embedded her persona. Never a complainer, she spoke only the language of family, friends, her church family, and laughter. Which meant that even though the water oftentimes got quite deep, she was able to keep her head above water.
Her life was a life of commitment - devoid of any need for wealth and reputation, power and prestige. She spent time giving rather than getting.
For seventy-four years my sister and I walked together, cried together, and laughed together. She gave everything to me! And meant everything to me! And as actor David Caradine reminds me, "The extent of our love for our loved one will be measured best when our loved one is no longer around."
I loved my beloved sister, Susie. And as the days unfold, I will love her even more!
Blessings to all the family from Cordell and Penny! We journey with you in our thoughts and prayers!
