Betty Pearl Hallett, age 86, of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, passed peacefully on January 6, 2024 in palliative care at Western Memorial Regional Hospital.

Betty was born in Corner Brook to Archibald and Eliza Ann Borden on June 10, 1938. Through-out her life, she was well known as a kind and loving person, of quick wit and a woman of faith who could be counted on to support others in their time of need.

Betty graduated from Corner Brook High School in 1956. After which, she went directly to work as a procurement clerk at Bowater’s Paper Mill for 15 years. Betty was an active member of the community, participating in the Lioness Club, the Gideon Society and was involved in both real estate and insurance sales.

From an early age, Betty took an active part in the Christian church and was the Assistant Sergeant Major in the Salvation Army Temple in Corner Brook. Later in her life, she earned a degree in theological studies through the Anglican church. Most recently, she was the spiritual leader of an all-Christian Bible study group that supported women of all ages to grow in the way of Christ.

Betty is deeply loved and mourned by her husband Boyce Hallett of Corner Brook Newfoundland, their children and spouses: Pamela & Vincent Tume, Frederick & Linda Hallett, Christopher & Christina Hallett and their three grandchildren Sydnee Hallett, Caroline Tume and Madeleine Tume. Her brothers and their wives: Lawrence & Beatrice Borden; Bernard & Anne Borden, and Betty’s sister-in-law Joyce Borden and their extended family.

She is predeceased by her parents and her brother’s and their wives: Pierce & Robena Borden; Jack & Ada Borden; her brother Eric Borden; her brother in-law Brian (Ricky) Hallett, her step-brothers & their wives; Harold & Elizabeth Borden; Elmo & Lilly Borden and her step-sister and her husband Annie & Alfred Fudge.

Funeral service will be held at the Salvation Army Temple, Corner Brook, NL on Thursday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to both the Doctors and Nurses of Western Memorial Regional Hospital and the Manager and Staff of Westmount Estates Retirement Community whose kindness and caring were remarkable in supporting Betty and Boyce in this difficult period.
