It is with great sadness that the family of the late Major Calvin Morris Hillyard announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the age of 86 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Major Harriet, two daughters: Raelene Hillyard (Jr) of Kippens, Michelle (Duane) King of Corner Brook; three grandchildren: Jordan, Nathan, and Breanna; brother Robert (Betty) of Corner Brook, sisters: Betty Hillyard of Corner Brook, Ruby Evans of Burlington, ON, Hazel Evans of Grand Falls Winsor, sister in-law Vonnie Hillyard of Corner Brook, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Rosa, brothers Donald and Verrick, Bruce and sister Mae. Calvin was a prominent member of the Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Award, one of the highest honours Rotary can bestow upon a person. In Brampton, Ontario, June 2000. A very special thank you to Majors Edward and Luanne Barrow, Dr. Julia O’Connor (Family doctor), the staff at the oncology unit, WMRH, Dr. Lafferty and Dr. Dunn, and the compassionate and caring Nurses on Palliative Care Unit. Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Sunday, December 16th from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, December 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Citadel, Clarence Street with Majors Ed and Luanne Barrow officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Palliative Care Unit at WMRH or The Salvation Army Citadel, Corner Brook.
