This is such a devastating loss to SKH school community. Mike and I began teaching at Baltimore School together in the fall of 2001. We carpooled together with Julie, Mike, and Ed for 5 years. Those car rides were long and filled with so many laughs, venting sessions and needed pick me ups after long days. My first year at Baltimore I lived in Witless Bay in my grandparents house and the pipes froze. So I drove back and forth to Mike's apartment in Bay Bulls to shower! He would never see me stuck. Mike was known to have a nap, especially on the early morning drives and loved to have his pepsi on the ride home. He spoke so much about his family- he was so close to them and his closeness with his mom was very special. We could tell. It was Mike who I went to for anything computer related, and he was always so willing to help, never a hesitation. He helped with the breakfast program, boiling hot dogs for dances, doing up awards, programs, everything we told him we needed! His gentleness was so special and was an asset to his job. He was always professional and kept the students needs at the forefront. Recently I met Mike at Costco and we shared a big hug and spoke about the new healthy life styles we have both embarked on. It was only Thanksgiving...and now he is gone. We texted during these last few weeks and I'm thankful for that. I hope his family takes comfort in knowing that he was loved as a colleague and as a teacher and he will be remembered with love by us all. Rest easy, Mike. And may God bless all his loved ones left to mourn such a loss.
