We are so saddened to share the news of the loss of our son and brother, Michael Alexander Schulz, at the age of 43 years, after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. Remembering Mike with countless wonderful and warm memories are his parents, Werner and Trudy of Corner Brook, brothers Ian (Jennifer) of Stephenville; special nephew and niece Alex and Abby, and Kevin (Matt LaFond) of Halifax. He will also be fondly remembered by his school family, principal, Mr. Tony Power and staff, students, and parents of St. Kevin’s High School in the Goulds, NL. Also left with great memories are his aunts and uncles, Bette Rolls, Joan Hutchings, Coleen Boland, Pat Hutchings, Marg Hutchings, Bill Hutchings (Marie), Bill Smith, Chris (Robert) Thompson, Susan (Ralph) Killam, David Schulz, Anna (Stewart) Felski and many cousins and friends across Canada and in Germany.

Mike is predeceased by his grandparents, Werner and Charlotte Schulz, Alexander and Nanny Bride Hutchings, uncles Ed Hutchings, Kevin Hutchings, Harry Rolls, and Bill Boland, aunts Josette Hutchings and Barbara Smith.

Mike grew up in Corner Brook, NL and graduated from Regina High School, Class of 1994. After pursuing his education degrees at Memorial University, he began his teaching career at Baltimore School in Ferryland, NL and at present was teaching at St. Kevin’s High School in the Goulds, NL.

We will forever remember Mike’s quirky and witty sense of humour, his love and commitment to family, friends, school life, and most recently, travel.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, a fund to benefit students at both St. Kevin’s High School in the Goulds and Baltimore School in Ferryland has been established in his memory. Donations will be graciously accepted at any Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union branch to the Mike Schulz Memorial Fund or a charity of one’s choice.

Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Monday, November 25 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, November 26 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at 10:30 a.m. from Sacred Heart Parish, 465 Curling Street, Corner Brook, with Monsignor Jim Robertson officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
