Daphne Lodge R.N. January 15 1944 - April 30 2020 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the late Daphne Lodge of Port au Choix at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook on Thursday April 30 2020. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughter Darlene (Jim) Tuff; sister and brothers-in-law: June Lodge of Port Union, Harvey Gale of Pollards Point and Gilbert Lodge of Greenwood Nova Scotia; very special cousins Georgina & Wilson Barnes of Grand Falls-Windsor; special friends Shirley & Dennis Gaslard and Stella Mailman of Port au Choix; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; including her Womens' Institute Sisters, Lioness Sisters and her many fellow health care workers. Daphne was predeceased by her husband Jack (2009); parents William and Emily Cooper, sisters: Jean (Elwood) Mayne, Cora Cooper and Audrey Gale; parents-in-law Mark & Sarah Lodge; brothers & sisters-in-law: Mabel, Mildred, Nellie, Hayward and Don. Daphne was born at Millertown NL, the youngest of four girls. She finished High School and left there at the age of 18 to go to The Salvation Army Grace School of Nursing in St. John’s. She met the love of her life, Jack and in 1967 they married and moved to St. Anthony, where she worked at the Hospital and in 1968 they welcomed their only child Darlene. They moved to Port au Choix shortly after where they settled down for the rest of their lives. Daphne, or Nurse Lodge as she was known by many, worked at Port Saunders Hospital and later Rufus Guinchard Hospital until she retired in 2000. She was devoted to her work and loved every minute of it. Daphne was involved in volunteering in her community, she started the Brownies and Pathfinders and was a Charter member of the United Town Lioness and a long time member of the Womens' Institute. Daphne will be missed by all who knew her. Darlene and Jim would like to say thank you to the Staff at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre, the Doctors and staff at the ICU and the Palliative care nurses at Western Memorial hospital, who went above and beyond their duties to make Mom comfortable. Your concern and compassion will never be forgotten. Family and friends may leave messages of condolence, make donations in memorial to the Interfaith Cemetery or St.Thomas Beckett Anglican Church Port au Choix or make a tribute on this website. The family entrusted arrangements to Fillatre Funeral Homes Ltd. Port au Choix.
