It is with great sadness that the family of the late Chesley Ralph Verge announce his passing on Friday, August 7, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 95 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his four daughters: Lynda (Doug) Sweetapple, Lorna (George) Gillingham, Lana Verge and Joanne (Craig) Goudie; grandchildren: Nancy Sweetapple (John Swiston), Mark (Jennifer) Sweetapple, Brian Sweetapple (Rebecca Blackman), Matthew (Michelle) Gillingham, Benjamin Gillingham (Pam Russell), Claire (Sam) Wight, Anna (Nicholas) Reithmeier, Aaron (Penny) Leggo, Zachary Goudie (Laura Genge) and Joshua Goudie (Stacey Tuttle); great-grandchildren: Vivian, Isaac, Luke, Thomas, Eleanor, Max, Nik, Ella, Owen, Lorne, Madeleine, Mirabelle, Gwenoviere, Alexandria and Chesley; sisters-in-law: Doris Verge, Julia Verge and Mary Slade; brother-in-law Lewis Pitcher; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Vivian Verge, son-in-law Carl Leggo, parents Leander and Amy Verge, sisters Annie Beatrice Verge and Elizabeth Penney (Fred Leonard and Bill Penney), brothers John Verge and Isaac Verge, parents-in-law Archibald and Evelyn Pye, brothers-in-law Clifford Pye and Ray Slade, sisters-in-law Emma Pitcher and Beatrice Pye. A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Corner Brook Long Term Care as well as the staff at Western Memorial Regional Hospital Emergency Department and Palliative Care. Due to Covid-19 Government restrictions a private family viewing will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue. A private funeral service will be held at First United Church, Park Street on Sunday, August 9 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John van Vliet officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Corner Brook Long Term Care or Royal Canadian Legion Branch 13.
