Niaomi and families, and the many friends of Bart.
We mourn your loss and share your sorrow. It is never easy on families to lose those you love so much and those who have impacted your life in such positive ways.
Please know that we are very Saddened to learn of the passing of your loved one, strong Innu leader, advocate and elder Bart Jack.
Bart was no stranger to adversity and challenge, I remember well the many stories he shared of his childhood, his culture and the challenge he endured. As Bart talked in his quiet voice and shared his story he did so because he was educating, he was always a teacher, he was an advocate and a leader on many issues. Bart gained the respect of Innu and all Labradorians, through his work in his community, the Innu Development Corporation and Mamu Tshishkutamashutau - Innu Education board- he promoted the culture of his people, preserved the teachings and forged strong partnerships. Bart was very much a passionate Labradorian who loved this land and loved his family. He was proud and that pride showed in his words.
Today we say goodbye to a friend, a father, a husband, a teacher, a leader and advocate. But we remember him always.
On behalf of all Labradorians I extend my deepest sympathy to Naomi and his family and friends. You are all in our thoughts and prayers as is the community of Sheshatshiu, as you mourn the loss of a Bart.
With deepest sympathy
Yvonne Jones, MP
